Exhibiting Artists

  • Ewa Bathelier  (+)

Biography : Born in Warsaw, Poland, Ewa Bathelier graduated in medicine but also well introduced to art, starts in early nineties an artistic career in France. "Her paintings are displayed in galleries and collections around the world. In parallel, as a scenographer she has made stage design and costumes for Beckett's and Pinget's plays in Cracow, Berlin and other cities in Europe. She is also associated to a group of polish poets and writers published in " Kwartalnik artystyczny ". Under these literary influences, she has perfected a minimalist style imbued with strong emotion. The fabulous textures and pastel hues of her paintings result in elegant style of sublimated minimalism that only vaguely hints at decoration. Ewa Bathelier is freewheeling in her choice of colors and angles; yet an identity runs across this cohort of flattened phantoms, one of which even embraces, with a wink, a bust's curves. There are not necessarily "noble" and "lowly" materials but in her classical treatment there is no dazzling showiness or provocation : brilliance comes from within. Ewa Bathelier seems physically present in each of her dresses, with changing physiognomies. Among the abstraction-mongers of our time, this artist ranks high; her work has the added quality of electrifying at the plexus level." Ileana MARCOULESCO in ARTLIES 2003.

Detailed Description : Dresses series is Ewa`s obsession for years. All dream-like. Together they orchestrate a subtle serenade, pervaded with sensual wishes, energetic and unsentimental. The ability of the medium to create a message about interiority which is a far cry from the stolid display of the dress. Fascinated by the grace, subtlety and variety of a single silhouette clad in many attires with marvelous textures, patterns and script-signs enmeshed in a literally physical atmosphere.

Other Represented Artists

  • Erika Calesini

Biography : The daughter of a blacksmith and a former fashion designer, Erika Calesini transforms iron, rubber, and other recycled industrial materials into found object sculptures. A recurring motif in her work is the bicycle, which she considers a timeless symbol of freedom and physical evidence that lightness and circularity can coexist. The artist disassembles and reassembles abandoned bikes and their component parts, giving them new lives as lamps, furniture, canvases, and other sculptural forms.
