CONTEXT New York | Art New York Announces Guest Curators

CONTEXT Art New York | Art New York is pleased to announce guest curators, Regine Basha, Rocio Aranda-Alvarado and Christoph Cox, who'll be overseeing the following video, sound, sculpture, installation and site-specific Special Projects for the debut CONTEXT New York.


:DIGITS TO DIGITAL: Curated by Regine Basha, this year’s program features video works by Leah Beeferman, Joey Fauerso, Brent Green, Kristin Lucas, Birgit Rathsmann, Carmelle Safdie. This program focuses on the physicality of the handmade, hand-built and hand-driven sources in digital works or moving images as we might also call them.


Regine Basha is a Brooklyn-based independent curator, writer, and consultant who has over twenty years of curatorial experience throughout North America. She is a graduate of the 1996 class of the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, New York. Read more about Regine here


El Museo de Barrio will feature a special program, RELATIONAL ABSTRACTIONSa curated exhibition by Rocio Aranda-Alvarado of site-specific artist presentations in the CONTEXT New York VIP Lounge.


Rocío Aranda-Alvarado is Curator at El Museo del Barrio where she is working on a collage exhibition, CUT N’ MIX and A Brief History of (Some) Things, an exhibition exploring the persistence of pre-contact American imagery in contemporary art. Read more about Rocio here


SOUND POSITIONS curated by Christoph Cox, this year’s program features sound works by Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Olivia Block, Maria Chavez, Holly Herndon, Ernst Karel, Matt Krefting, Chris Kubick, Jake Meginsky, Aura Satz, Jennifer Walshe, Yan Jun, Dajuin Yao. Sound Positions creates an immersive and intimate listening experience, with works by an international selection of emerging and established sound artists.


Christoph Cox is Professor of Philosophy at Hampshire College and visiting faculty at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College. He is the author of Sonic Flux: Sound, Art, and Materialism (forthcoming) and Nietzsche: Naturalism and Interpretation (California, 1999) and co-editor of Realism Materialism Art (Sternberg, 2015).
